Anjanee

From the novel entitled "Danark: A Thief's Tale".

Anjanee is one of the main characters in the book and she was a joy to write. I wanted to write someone with a tough exterior that she shows to everyone who knows her. She cusses a lot and has a bad temper as well which adds to her personality. Deep inside, however, there's a vulnerable part that she doesn't show to anyone, which is why it was so important when she finally opens up that you see the emotion stemming from her. She hates having to need someone for something, but will give you her life if she loves you.

I redid her description slightly based on this drawing. When I saw this cover, I had to get it because it was Anjanee. Really the only difference was the hair color which I had as blonde, but the character has the ability to change her hair color if needed, so I guess technically I could have kept it the same. I just knew this was my cover from the very first time I saw it.

Since this is a Danark series book, I had to tie this book and the other one together somehow which was difficult at first since this book takes place on several planets, non of which were Giya which is where the first book took place in its entirety. Having Anjanee related to one of the characters who was mentioned in the first book, and also having her be a native of Giya was what I needed to bring the books together. Her relationship with the member mentioned (which I won't say here since it's a spoiler) actually worked out very well as it's the main driver for the story. It's their relationship that has her dropping her guard and showing some of that emotion she likes to hide deep inside of her.

"Well, damn. I just bought that outfit too. Cost me about a hundred credits. You know how hard it is to find a good space suit out here in the nether regions?" Anjanee's smart-aleck response to her torturer after finding out he disposed of her clothing.
