Quinn
From the novel entitled "The Life Within".

Quinn may be one of the most tragic characters I’ve ever written.

In the book “The Life Within” it’s at the beginning of the zombie apocalypse, roughly a month in. Quinn is a part of a group of citizens who have taken refuge in a local store, doing their best to survive. When the zombie attack started, Quinn was on the other side of the city, away from his family. When he finally makes it through the chaos and madness, he arrives at his home to find his wife and kids dead, having been ravaged by the zombie hoard.

With that tragic backstory, it’s a wonder Quinn hasn’t snapped as he continues to go on missions for supplies, taking unnecessary chances, hoping to take as many of the zombies with him before he dies. Writing a character like this is difficult as he’s lost everything and blames himself for not being there for his family. He’s gone from a call center worker to what the others call a madman. That is until Bella-Ne.
I created this storyline because I wanted to write a love story, but not in the traditional way. I wanted to put a love story in the middle of chaos to give Quinn's tortured soul some quiet in a life of loudness. It wasn’t easy getting there. This story is derived from the script I wrote of the same name, and I loved novelizing this one because I was able to really dig into Quinn and his emotions. With his love interest, Bella-Ne, being a pop star as well, I wanted the meet and relationship to be as awkward as possible.

The ending of this story really had certain people angry with me, and it was purposely designed to set people off. Not every story ends the way you want it to, which is why it’s important to enjoy the journey. Many have asked me about writing a sequel, but this tale doesn’t need one. It’s a story of a man with nothing to lose, finding the life within once more, and it came out perfect in my opinion.

“Some folks think it was terrorists, others are thinking along the lines of an experiment gone wrong. Some folks are even convinced that this is the apocalypse and that we’re damned for all eternity.” Quinn on what people think caused the zombie apocalypse.
